ED-EL-FITRI: CPP FELICITATES WITH MUSLIMS

The Citizens Popular Party (CPP) felicitates with our moslem brothers and sisters on the occasion of this year's Ed-El-Fitri. We believe that the period afforded them the opportunity to rededicate themselves to Allah and pray for our beloved nation. We wish them Barka Da Sallah.

As the nation marks its Golden Jubilee on 1st October 2010, CPP urges Nigerians irrespective of creed or tongue to pray fervently for God's intervention in our national affairs, so that as the refrain in our National Anthem says, the labours of our hero's past shall never be in vain.

The circumstances of our time calls for sober reflection on our nationhood. For 50 years of Nigeria's Independence, the nation has witnessed stunted growth as a consequence of failure of leadership and a betrayal of the vision of the founding fathers. It is unfortunate that Nigerians are yet to get the right leadership at the federal level to take them through the 21st century in fact and deed.

The forthcoming general election provides yet another golden opportunity for the citizenry to choose the right leaders to run the affairs of the nation.

In the Spirit of Ed-El-Fitri, the CPP calls on Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process as power resides in the people. We call on INEC to expedite action on the voters' register and urge the populace to ensure that they register as their votes this time must be counted and count. This is the only way we can enthrone genuine democracy in the country.

We urge politicians to imbibe issue-based politics and shun violence and politics of bitterness which has retarded our political development. We call on Professor Attahiru Jega-led INEC to sit up and stop making excuses on why he should not conduct credible, transparent, free and fair general election in 2011. Nigerians and the International Community expect peaceful and credible election. They should have it.

Barka Da Sallah.
